Takahashi Broom Maker

His workshop is one of the only two remaining in the country, where everything is made by hand with traditional technique. His son is trying to succeed the business. It takes about three months to complete a broomstick.

Bottom left is the broom returned from a customer for maintainance. They even become fluffier and more “elegant” after many years of use, as the oil content of the palm fiber coats the surface, which also works to catch dusts in traditional tatami mats, slits of wooden floors and even carpets.

“Palm Tree broomsticks will grow with the user, unlike electric vacuumcleaners, which will be in the best condition at the moment of purchase and only deteriorates afterwards, lasts something around 5 years. These brooms can be passed down on next generations if maintained well.”
